Technology Resources & Requirements

The College of Nursing requires Accelerated Direct-Entry MSN students to purchase a MacBook. This requirement is based on the current technology environment within the college's classrooms and simulation lab, which are built to enable active learning and student engagement through AirPlay, screen sharing and MacBook native apps.

Minimum system specifications:

  • 8GB of RAM
  • 256GB of storage
  • Built-in webcam
  • MacOS 12 Monterey

UC offers access to free trainings on LinkedIn Learning. Be sure to log in to LinkedIn Learning through the University of Cincinnati (using your 6+2 ID and password) to ensure you have proper access before watching the following training sessions:

Exams

As long as your MacBook is running the most current MacOS, you will be able to access your exams without any issues. You will also have the opportunity to take a practice exam to ensure your device is configured properly. Additional instructions and training will be provided by individual course instructors.

Canopy & Canvas

Canopy is UC's eLearning ecosystem. It is an innovative, collaborative and student-centric portal through which you will access UC's eLearning technologies and resources, including:

  • Canvas, where your courses will be hosted
  • Catalyst, where you will register for courses and view your financial status
  • Many more resources

You can access Canopy at canopy.uc.edu.

To help you get started in Canvas, you will receive a pre-module in your courses with video tutorials on navigating and using Canvas' various, user-friendly features.

Additional Help

hOLDDI offers comprehensive IT services for the college. The team provides day-to-day IT support and operations management, but also leads the way for the college's technology implementation and adoption.

The IT @ UC Knowledge Base houses helpful documents on all programs and software you will use as a student, including resources on virtual meetings, classroom Canvas pages, registration guidelines and more.

Technology Requirements

MacBook requirements are based on minimum specifications for Canvas, Microsoft Office 365 (including Microsoft Teams) and Kaltura Video Capture. Access to these tools is provided to all UC students.
