Adult-Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

MSN

Why study Adult-Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner?

UC's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program prepares registered nurses to provide advanced care for adolescents, older adults and the elderly with acute, short-term illnesses; exacerbated chronic illnesses; or terminal diseases.

Our Adult-Gero Acute Care program features flexible, online coursework and on-campus labs — held once a week for three semesters if attending full-time — that provide essential skills training not replicable in an online format. This ensures our students obtain expert proficiency in the field to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing school and at least one year of work experience as a registered nurse. For more details, visit the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program Admissions page.

Graduates of this specialty meet educational requirements to take exams for national certification. Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs provide services ranging from disease prevention to critical care to stabilize a patient’s condition, prevent complications, restore health or offer palliative care. They also coordinate comprehensive care in and across health care settings to ensure patients’ needs are met during care transitions. Many Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs work in hospitals, ambulatory care facilities or short-term stay settings.
