Scholarship Details

College of Nursing students received more than $1.6 million in scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year. These awards recognize academic achievement and financial need.

Awards & Eligibility Requirements

  • The Susan and Derek van Amerongen Scholarship Fund

    Up to $5,000 per year, for 2 academic years, for a total of $10,000

    • Preference given to a student enrolled in a Nurse Practitioner program
    • Preference given to a student of Hispanic origin and/or a student interested in working in the Hispanic community after graduation
    • Preference given to a student interested in public health or community health nursing
    • College of Nursing graduate students
    • Full-time enrollment status
  • Alumni Association Graduate Scholarship

    Up to $2,000 per year

    • College of Nursing graduate students;
    • Full-time enrollment status; and
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0.
  • Nellie Alden Franz Scholarship

    Up to $3,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0; and
    • Must have applied for federal aid using the FAFSA.
  • Barr Scholarship Fund

    Up to two (2) $3,000 (full- or part-time students) per year and one (1) $6,000 (full-time student) per year

    • On-site College of Nursing Advanced Nurse Practitioner graduate student;
    • Full- or part-time enrollment status; and
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0.
    • The Barr Awards are eligible for renewal for one additional year based upon academic achievement. Application submittal is required for second year of funding.
  • Board of Advisors Scholarship

    Up to $2,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) student;
    • Full-time enrollment status; and
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0.

  • Phillip O. Bridenbaugh, M.D., Anesthesia Scholarship Fund
    • Students must be accepted into the CRNA graduate program; and
    • Be a full-time student in good standing.
  • Lee & Shannon Carter Endowed Scholarship Fund

    $500 minimum per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0; and
    • Demonstrates financial need.
  • College of Nursing Scholarship

    Up to $4,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student
    • Full-time enrollment status
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0
  • Dennis M. & Lois A. Doyle Scholarship Fund

    Up to four (4) $2,500 scholarships per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status; and
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0.
  • Eileen H. Duncan & Robert McCarthy Scholarship

    Up to $6,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status
  • Charles Fleischmann Foundation Scholarship

    Up to $4,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0; and
    • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Helene Fuld Health Trust Scholarship

    Up to $4,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) student;
    • Full-time enrollment status; and
    • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Jerome Giuseffii, Jr. M.D. Scholarship
    • Peri-operative nursing student scholarship; and
    • Annual scholarship will be awarded on need but also on merit as a B grade point average must be maintained.
  • Lawrence & Gladys Gordon Endowed Fund for Adult Gerontological Nursing
    • Master’s degree level student(s) enrolled in the Adult Gerontological Acute Care NP Program who demonstrates (by their academic performance and actual participation in geriatric nursing) a firm commitment to pursue a career specifically as a nurse practitioner in adult gerontological nursing serving America’s elderly population; and
    • Must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Alfred Heil Scholarship

    Up to $1,500 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Demonstrate financial need; and
    • Italian-American descent.

  • Mildred M. Kyle Scholarship

    Up to $1,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Sandra Laney Scholarship

    Up to one (1) $3,000 scholarship per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status; and
    • Interest in working with aging populations.
  • Latitude Fund
    • Open to students enrolled in the College of Nursing who may not qualify for existing merit-based scholarships with a minimum GPA requirement, but show promise as future outstanding nursing professionals; and
    • Preference given to minority students, including males, enrolled in the College of Nursing with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.4.
  • Beverly L. Laube Scholarship

    Up to $1,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Men in Nursing
    • Must be a full-time UC undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior nursing student in good academic standing;
    • Must be a member of the UC Chapter of the American Assembly of Men in Nursing (both male and female student members eligible); and
    • If no eligible students apply, then the award is open to all UC undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior nursing student in academic good standing with preference to a male nursing student.
  • Helen Miller Scholarship

    Up to $2,500 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Ohio State Firefighters' Nursing Foundation Scholarship

    $900 minimum per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Demonstrate financial need;
    • State of Ohio resident for past three years; and
    • Evaluated on scholastic aptitude, academic achievement and personality record.
    • Preference given to student(s) who is or has been an EMT or firefighter or who is the child of an EMT or firefighter.
  • Leo W. & Clara Thorley Pfeiffer Scholarship

    Up to $3,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Mae A. Rinehart Scholarship Fund

    Up to $3,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Edna N. Schenck Memorial Scholarship Fund
    • Open to traditional, full-time (non distance learning) students enrolled either undergraduate or graduate programs at the College of Nursing;
    • Students must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher; and
    • Students must express a desire to work in Public Health and/or work with vulnerable populations after graduation.
  • George & Esther Spangler Scholarship

    Up to $3,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student; and
    • Full-time enrollment status.
  • Lori Williams Memorial Scholarship

    Up to $750 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0; and
    • Demonstrate financial need.
    • Preference given to a resident of Darke County, Ohio.
  • Tom Yeaworth Family Scholarship

    Up to $4,000 per year

    • College of Nursing undergraduate (sophomore-senior) or graduate student;
    • Full-time enrollment status;
    • Minimum University GPA of 3.0; and
    • Demonstrate financial need.
