Tracey Yap

YapTracey Yap RN, PhD (PI) and co-investigators Susan Kennerly, RN, PhD and Elaine Miller RN, PhD from the College of Nursing, along with Jay Kim, PhD from Engineering and biostatistician Ralph Buncher, ScD were awarded a $299,963 two-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as part of the Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative.

Dr. Yap and her research team will partner with Signature HealthCare of Florida to develop a system-wide nurse-led mobility-team approach to decrease long-term care facility-acquired pressure ulcers. The group will conduct the research at ten Signature HealthCare facilities. The study addresses concerns about the growing incidence and costs associated with long-term care facility-acquired pressure ulcers in the United States. Funding for this research was competitive – with only five proposals funded out of the 105 applications submitted. With this funding, we look forward to improving the quality of life for long-term care patients at risk of developing pressure ulcers.
