Melissa Feltz crowned 2009 Homecoming QueenCollege of Nursing student Melissa Feltz was crowned 2009 University of Cincinnati Homecoming Queen at UC’s Nippert Stadium on October 25, during the halftime ceremony of the UC/Louisville football game. Feltz hails from Coldwater, Ohio, and is a junior in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Melissa Feltz is the president of the UC tour guides, a College of Nursing student ambassador and an active member of Colleges Against Cancer and Relay for Life. Her outgoing personality and involvement on campus earned her homecoming court nominations from several student organizations. “Every time I made it to the next round of finalists, I was shocked,” Feltz said. “When they announced my name on Saturday as the 2009 Homecoming Queen, I couldn’t believe it. I was pleasantly surprised, elated and extremely grateful.”
Feltz is known for her active involvement and passion for community service in the UC community. “I was raised with the notion to give back when you can,” said Feltz. “I may not be able to give financially, but I can give back by getting my hands in the dirt and making something happen.” Feltz aspires to graduate with her BSN and work as a nurse in the Cincinnati area. “My career goals and passion for service are one in the same,” Feltz said. “I chose nursing because I would get to care for others and serve patients for a lifetime.”
Melissa has felt a strong connection with UC since the day she stepped on campus and hopes to one day teach at the College of Nursing. “I don’t ever plan on being done at UC,” said Feltz. “After serving as a supplemental instructor for biology, I have fallen in love with teaching. If I could get others to connect to the nursing curriculum the way I have, it would be a privilege.”
