The Minority Scholarship
The University Hospital is offering a scholarship
to minority students who are graduating from a high school in Hamilton
County. Students are eligible to apply for a 4-year scholarship (up
to $10,000 a year) to attend the University of Cincinnati College of
Nursing.
Scholarship Requirements
Applicants must be graduating from
high school with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Students who receive
the scholarship will provide The University Hospital with an 18-month
full-time employment commitment upon graduation.
Recipients will be required to participate in a minimum of two University
Hospital activities per year and participate in the College of Nursing
Deans Ambassador program.
Eligibility
- Student has maintained a minimum grade point average
of 3.0 in high school in Hamilton County.
- Is a minority student, i.e., of African American
or Hispanic descent.
- Meets all qualifications for admission to the College
of Nursing as a baccalaureate student.
- Pre-nursing requires either class rank in the upper
50% or ACT 20/SAT 1000 or if class rank is below 50% ACT 25/SAT
1120.
Academic Scholars require class rank in the upper 33% and ACT 23/SAT
1120. Academic Scholars are guaranteed admission to the BSN nursing
program if they maintain grades of C in all required pre-nursing
courses with 2.75 GPA in these courses.
- Must maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average
in the College of Nursing.
- Demonstrates financial need as defined by federal
standards. Applicant must complete a FAFSA
application.
- Student must maintain full-time status.
Additional Requirements
- Scholarship funds may only be applied to the University
of Cincinnati College of Nursing.
- Scholarship decisions are made by the Scholarship
Selection Committee and candidates will participate in an interview
process.
- The Scholarship Committee will review any situation
in which a student has difficulty meeting academic requirements.
Application Process
Print application and fill out in its entirety
and submit with all additional materials.
- Official high school transcript.
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a school
official and one from a community representative.
- A 250-300 word essay about why the applicant
wishes to pursue a nursing career.
- Evidence of personal achievement, community
service, and leadership qualities.

Applications may be submitted at
any time, however selections are made once a year in May. Scholarships will be awarded by June 1.
