2nd Annual Guidelines and Call for Abstracts Nursing has become a very complex profession. Not only are our graduates expected to be adept at innumerable skills, they also must be able to make connections between complex physical findings, laboratory data, pharmacological regimens, and pathophysiologies. Nursing graduates need to be able to reason, to integrate knowledge from diverse disciplines, and to critically think. Our students need to be taught using methods that teach the complex cognitive skills necessary for practice! Unfortunately, there is too little research in the nursing literature that supports particular learning methods. In our push for evidence-based practice, we must also push for evidence-based teaching. The SoTL in Nursing Conference is an excellent opportunity for nursing educators (academic, clinical, preceptors, hospital staff development, etc.) and graduate students to share their SoTL research. All nursing educators and graduate students are welcome to submit abstracts and to participate in the conference. Abstracts are now being accepted for paper presentations and posters. Abstracts should address research related to, but is not limited to, areas such as the following: critical thinking, expanded roles in nursing, evaluating learning outcomes, teaching and learning strategies, technology and education, evidence-based teaching, distance/web-enhanced education, mentorship in nursing education, retention (preceptors, students, faculty). You may submit an abstract for research projects that have been completed or proposed. A blind peer review process will be utilized to evaluate the abstracts. Abstracts accepted for the conference will be assigned to either a paper presentation session or a poster session. Presenters will be notified by March 30, 2007.
