Research Faculty Madeleine T. Martin, RN, MSN, EdD Professor College of Nursing University of Cincinnati EDUCATION 1968, BSN, University of Cincinnati (Nursing) BACKGROUND Prior to her academic career Dr. Martin had experience in both medical surgical nursing and burn nursing. She came to the University to direct one of only three nationally recognized Burn Nursing Graduate Training Programs.Through her career she has been director of multiple advanced nurse training grants, served on the Board of Trustees for the American Burn Association and Chaired the Research Committee for the Emergency Nursing Association. She chaired the planning group which developed the Doctoral Program at the University of Cincinnati and applied for and received a DHHS training grant to establish the program. She has also chaired the University West Campus Human Subjects Review Review Board. TEACHING Professor Martin was Department Head, Adult Health Nursing for over 8 years and currently is Acting BSN Curriculum Coordinator. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate students. At the doctoral level she teaches Phenomena of Concern to Nursing and Nursing Consultation in Education and Administration. For undergraduate students she teaches Health Assessment, Foundations of Nursing Practice, Nursing Research and Adult Health Nursing courses. SERVICE & RESEARCH Dr. Martin’s current service and research are in the area of Breast Health and Rural Health Nursing.She and her colleague Dr. Lane have established the non profit corporation Southeastern Indiana Cancer Health Network (SEICHN).Through this organization, mammograms and breast health education are provided to rural, medically underserved, un/underinsured women in southeastern Indiana. In June they celebrated their 1000 no cost mammogram provided to this population.The Logic Model serves as the framework for program evaluation and assessment of data.In 2004, with Dr. Lane, the Trinity Health Clinic was opened to serve the health promotion needs of adults in this same geographic area.Multiple grants have been obtained to fund these programs. This work is the basis of publications and presentations. She is currently a member of the Scientific Review Committee of the University Cancer Center. HONORS & AWARDS Dr. Martin has been recognized for excellence in both teaching and research and is recipient of the Elizabeth Kemble Excellence in Nursing Award.
