1995 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
The fourth edition of Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans, a joint publication of the Departments of Health and Human Services and Agriculture, is available in both electronic and print formats. The Dietary Guidelines provide easily understood, science-based information on how Americans can choose diets that promote good health. Other Internet nutritional links are located on this site.

Agency for Health Care Policy and Research
The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, is part of the US Dept. of HHS and is the lead agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services. It's mission is to Put Prevention Into Practice. It offers the personal health guide, with information on blood pressure, cholesterol, immunizations, weight control, preventive care for women and much more. A child's health guide is also available.The AHCPR has information on smoking cessation for individuals, consumers guide for smoking cessation and much more consumer health information.

American Heart Association (See AHA for Women)
The AHA's site has many patient education features including information on how to the reduce risk of heart disease and stroke. Take the health risk awareness quiz for heart attack & stroke online. The site provides healthful tips on weight reduction, exercise and nutrition. There are descriptions of heart diseases and conditions, heart surgeries and treatments, heart diagnostic testing and procedures, and secondary prevention descriptions that can be printed for pt information. Links to other heart resources are available.

CDC Prevention Guidelines Database
The Prevention Guidelines Database is a comprehensive compendium of all of the official guidelines and recommendations published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the prevention of diseases, injuries, and disabilities. This compendium was developed to allow public health practitioners and others to quickly access the full set of CDC's guidelines from a single point, regardless of where they were originally published. This database was developed with financial support from the Information Network for Public Health Officials (INPHO) project.

Clinician's Handbook of Preventive Services
Published on the Virtual Hospital web site, this handbook is edited by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Public Health Service. In 60 concise chapters, it provides information on a wide range of preventive care, with information on how to perform each particular preventive service; how to obtain patient education materials; and where to turn for further references.

Guide to Clinical Preventive Services
Guide to Clinical Preventive Services, 2nd Edition has become an established reference source for clinicians needing evidence-based recommendations on preventive services; for managers and payers seeking information on preventive care; and for students, trainees, and researchers interested in both the process and substance of preventive service guidelines. Although the full text of the guide can be viewed online it is best viewed in PDF format which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Mother's Voices
Mother's Voices is a movement of mothers working for a public climate responsive to AIDS. This national grassroots effort, educates and empowers mothers to raise their voices to promote public policies that advance efforts for AIDS education, prevention, research, treatment, and ultimately a cure.

National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
The purpose of this CDC affiliate site is too prevent death and disability from chronic diseases, to promote maternal, infant, and adolescent health, and to promote healthy personal behaviors.

National Immunization Program
This CDC affiliate site provides comprehensive information on immunizations, including: schedules for adults and children; vaccine safety fact sheets with a vast range of topics from Hepatitis B Vaccine to a discussion on Alternatives to vaccines; Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases" course Textbook, 4th Edition, The Pink Book is available online using Adobe Acrobat Reader, and other comprehensive resources. This Web site has almost anything one would want to know about vaccines.

National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention
General information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis, and on the work of the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention.

The Prevention Report in provided by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Dept. of HHS, these reports are available in PDF format, which can be easily viewed and printed for distribution using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
