Preliminary Exam - Summer after Year 1

The preliminary examination is a 4-question exam that students have 2 weeks to successfully complete. Students must successfully complete the preliminary examination in order to proceed to second year doctoral study.

Area of Concentration - 21 credits (students will take at least 6 credits in concentration at UC CON)

*At the end of the required coursework, students will take a candidacy exam in order to be admitted to candidacy. The candidacy exam consists of a successful defense of the dissertation proposal. Students have 5 years from admission date into the PhD program to be admitted to candidacy. Once admitted to candidacy, students need to take dissertation hours equal to a minimum of 20 credit hours. Students have 4 years from admission-to-candidacy date to graduation.
