Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

The Neonatal Nursing major prepares the graduate for advanced nursing practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist. In either role, the Neonatal Nurse provides acute care to neonates from birth through their follow-up needs. Clinical experience is gained in greater Cincinnati level II and III nurseries and high-risk follow up clinics. The program shares some experiences with pediatric, women’s health, and nurse-midwifery programs. Neonatal Nurse Practitioner students are eligible for national certification. Graduates have been very successful on the certification exam.

Two years of NICU experience is required for students before entering the clinical component of the major.
