Nurse Anesthesia
The Nurse Anesthesia program was started as the
University Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1945, and is the
fourth oldest program nationally. This program is fully accredited
by the Council for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Nurse
Anesthesia.
Program Description
The curriculum includes content and clinical experiences
in general and regional anesthesia techniques. Requirements for admission
include all University Graduate School requirements and one-year minimum
critical care experience as an RN. Clinical experiences take place
in the University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, the Cincinnati
Veterans Medical Center, Children's Hospital Medical Center, which
has the largest surgical service of any children's hospital in the
country, and several community hospitals. Post-CRNA, MSN option - Certified
Registered Nurse Anesthetists holding BSN degrees may apply to the
College for master's degree completion. The program is 27 months in
length. A Post-MSN certificate program is in planning stages.

Admission Requirements for Nurse Anesthesia
- One year minimum critical care experience required
(ICU - surgical, medical, neuro, or cardiac), preferably adult ICU,
within the last three years.
- Current ACLS and PALS
- Ohio RN license
- Due to GRE test format changes, the GRE test
must be taken before September 1, 2008.
Recommendations to prepare for the graduate
program in Nurse Anesthesia include: recent course in chemistry,
biochemistry, and/or physics, and basic computer skills (word processing,
email and Internet skills).
