Ambulatory Care - NP

Accept the challenge to become an advanced practice nurse in adult health and provide health promotion, disease prevention, or chronic disease management to individuals. Graduates of this major meet criteria for taking certification exams as Adult Nurse Practitioners or Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Programs of study are designed to allow for general and specialized experiences in the clinical rotations. Graduates are employed in private practice, clinics, long-term care, homecare and various occupational health settings as well as physician practice groups. They have achieved an outstanding pass rate on certification examinations.

Program of Study

In addition to a series of core courses common to all majors, students in this major take a series of courses specific to the care of adults with common health problems.

Faculty are expert, certified clinicians. Many have funded research programs related to care of patients with cardiovascular disease, symptom management, holistic health and quality of life. Excellent clinical experiences are offered in a wide range of settings. Clinical placements determined by students’ areas of interest/career goals and may be completed in most geographical locations based on ability to meet course objectives.

Full-time or part-time study is possible and financial assistance may be available for full-time students. Credits may be transferred from other universities
