Requirements for Admission

Candidates must provide satisfactory evidence of:

  2. A satisfactory score (combined verbal and math) on the GRE;
  3. Current license to practice as a registered nurse;
  4. One year of work experience as an RN is required for Nurse Anesthesia and Nurse Midwifery majors. One year of professional work is preferred for all other majors;
  5. Successful completion (minimum grade of C) of an undergraduate statistics course;
  6. Acceptable professional references; and
  7. Acceptable professional goal statement.

To get the best consideration for scholarships and available opportunities in your chosen major, we recommend that you submit all application materials to the Office of Student Affairs by the beginning of January. We suggest that you submit international applications one year in advance. Notification of admission decision generally occurs by mid-March.

Nurse Anesthesia applications must be received by October 1 and (due to GRE test format changes) the GRE test must be taken before September 1, 2008. Nurse Anesthesia applicants will receive notification by mid-December.

Applicants who are deemed acceptable potential students will be invited for an interview following review of their applications. All applicants must interview in the department in which the major is located. If distance makes an on-site interview impractical, a telephone interview can be arranged.

The Admission and Progression Committee takes into consideration all of the requirements related to rendering an admission decision. Applicants who do not meet all of the requirements but whose credentials reveal potential ability for master’s study are reviewed on an individual basis. Applicants may be required to fulfill specific prerequisites or other conditions of admission prior to an admission decision or admitted on a provisional basis. Provisional admission status requires the student to meet specific requirements before full admission status is granted.

A maximum of nine quarter credits of graduate course work may be pursued prior to admission. Enrollment in graduate course work does not guarantee admission.
